The Avenue Diner (222 Davenport Rd): I kind of hate this place. I've only been once, and I'll never return. It's not too far from Yorkville and the Four Seasons, and is filled with the kind of people you'd expect to see hanging out in those locales. And okay, that's fine, sometimes I hang out there too, but I cannot stomach listening to a family talk about the failings in the risotto the hired help cooked the night before or watching a woman in ill fitting leather pants before noon on a Saturday (both of which I experienced when I was there). The Avenue Diner also sells its own merch, and I am so bugged by fake diners selling their own t-shirts. The food was okay, I don't really remember. Go to People's down the street instead.

PLEASE HELP ME OUT HERE. YOUR COMMENT WAS FAKE DINERS SELLING BUGGED MERCHANDISE???? THE AVENUE DINER TO MY KNOWLEDGE IS ONE OF THE ONLY REAL DINERS IN TORONTO TODAY. THEY ARE BEEN AROUND FOR 60 YEARS "AS IS" AND I THINK IF YOU DON'T REMEMBER THE FOOD YOU SHOULD TRY IT AGAIN. WHAT PLANET ARE YOU FROM? TOO FAR FROM YORKVILLE??? I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU AND YOUR BREAKFAST PROBLEM...
Same old, same old. As soon as a place garners notoriety for being 'real' and cool it becomes selfconscious of itself and thereby becomes pretencious.
This is by far the best diner in Toronto! It's an institution. Breakfast is awesome. The service is fantastic. It's family owned. That is why so many celebrities from NYC love this place.
the fact that it's family owned is definitely a plus. but that's about it. i don't really care that "celebrities from nyc" love the place - when i'm looking for a good, authentic diner a celebrity is the last person i'll turn to for a recommendation. and the food is just average.
